ABOUT US
Michigan Veterans Products (MVP) has a mission to train veterans and create jobs in the city of Detroit. Every Purchase Helps a Veteran. We want to regularly take time out to honor the sacrifices of the many brave individuals who keep us all safe. Americans love, respect, and honor our troops and generally donate billions of dollars for military-related missions. We are joining in the fight to help our veterans. We want to help improve the quality of life for veterans that may be wounded in combat by offering them resources that can help strengthen them physically, cognitively, emotionally, and socially.
JOB PLACEMENT SERVICES
MVP‘s main goal is to assist with job placement services by partnering with educational institutions. We will focus on matching veteran’s skills with the job openings of employers or companies in your local area, at no cost to you. MVP can help you find permanent, temporary, and/or full-time positions. These firms are also called headhunters or executive search firms. When using our employment agency, you often get access to job openings that are not advertised publicly, and you have someone working closely with you to match your skills and careers goals to available positions. MVP can assist with providing jobs in various fields and the benefits include:
- Gaining work experience, developing skills, obtaining training, and increasing networking contacts.
- Earning income to help support your family.
- Adding to your work history which makes it easier to obtain a job.
- Finding and identifying flexible hours or working conditions to accommodate your personal situations.
- Growing from temporary to permanent positions.
- You can try out an employer or an occupation before making a commitment to training, a particular career, or a particular employer.
Tips for Solidifying Employment
- Show professionalism. Treat the employees and customers with respect to ensure that you are building a good rapport and work history.
- Ensure timely availability. Make yourself available during normal business hours (Monday – Friday @ 9a – 5p) as much as possible. Let potential employers know, up front, of any special circumstances you may have.
- Be serious about your job search. Network and use as many resources as possible to find employment: online and brick and mortar.
- Research companies and benefits they offer. Be aware of any child care, health and other benefits. Also be aware that working even part-time can reduce unemployment insurance benefits, depending on your individual circumstances.
RESUME WRITING
Get the job you want! We assist veterans with starting a new resume, evaluating their current resumes, and with gathering the correct information needed to create a great resume.
Most recruiters use software to help them screen resumes. If resumes do not have the correct terminology and keywords, the software will not designate you as a good candidate for the job. A professionally written cover letter and resume increases your chances of securing a job interview and properly displays your transferrable skills and work experience. MVP can also assist with improving your LinkedIn profile. Additional resources are also available through Detroit Employment Solutions, who will assign you to a career advisor and/or help you register for their free resume writing workshops.
GED COMPLETION
MVP will help veterans and their families gain access to resources that can assist them with completing their GED. Having a GED can assist clients with obtaining better career opportunities. Additional resources are available through Detroit Public Schools’ Adult Education Programs. Detroit Public Schools’ Adult Education programs offer High School Completion (HSC), General Educational Development (HSE), Adult Basic Education/Pre-HSE (ABE), and English as a Second Language (ESL) at several community sites and schools, including two main Adult Education campuses, throughout Detroit.
PET THERAPY
We can help you find support through service dogs or therapy dogs. Therapy dogs can have a variety of jobs, including giving learning-disabled children support to read out loud or visit with people in hospitals or nursing homes. Service dogs help people with disabilities perform tasks, which helps the handler attain safety and independence. And PTSD and psychiatric service dogs provide emotional support with people that have PTSD and other mental health conditions.
Partner a veteran dealing with depression, PTSD, anxiety, TBI or any other post-war disability (including limited mobility, amputation or visual or auditory impairments) with a carefully selected, highly-trained canine teammate.
Service dogs are highly intuitive and selected for their potential to bond so deeply they can alert their veteran to issues such as seizures, migraines or debilitating shifts in mood before the veteran even knows what’s happening.
